Mt. Rawdon Gold Mine – Tailings Storage Facility

Evolution Mining engaged McCosker to raise the Mt Rawdon Tailings dam in 2020.


The 2020 project was for the Stage 5B raise the existing Mt Rawdon Tailings Storage Facility from RL180m to RL181m.


The establishment and disestablishment of project site facilities/services to mine site standards. 2.0Ha of clearing for the borrow pits. 5,000m3 of topsoil stripping and stockpiling for borrow pits. Removal and subsequent replacement of 3,800m3 existing rock fill materials. Removal and subsequent replacement of 1,200m3 of road gravel sheeting. 23,000m2 of existing surface scarification for subsequent earthworks.


Win, load, cart and place approximately 9,400m3 of clay fill, 13,200m3 of general fill and 7,000m3 of select rock fill.

Borrow pit reinstatement, Disestablishment of project site facilities and services and Demobilisation of earthworks equipment.


As a result of our performance in 2020, McCoskers have been invited back each year for annual wall raises to cater for the current year’s production of Tailings. The scope has been very similar each year, and raises have mostly been 2.5m embankment raises, but also include downstream Buttress strengthening and other dam construction projects.


The fleet consisted generally of D10 Dozers, D6 Dozers, 45T &30T Excavators, 40T & 45T Articulated trucks rollers and Watercarts.
